How To Decide On Wedding Decor

Now that I’ve touched on a few things you need to know before planning a wedding, let’s get into the fun stuff: the decor. There’s so. many. things. you can decide to do to decorate on your big day, so where to start?!

Here’s a cliché answer to that broad question: start with what you know, and start with what you love. You’ll be pulled in 1,001 different directions by everyone who knows everything about what your wedding should look like and what it should be. But, guess what? It should be you. It should be everything that you and your partner picture – everything that you both think is beautiful. If you start there, and stay true to yourself, you will absolutely love the outcome.

With that being said, I know some of you are sitting there thinking: What do I want? What do I think is beautiful? For those of you still questioning that, or for those of you like me who can never decide on one particular style because you love everything, there’s a few tools on WeddingWire that will come to the rescue.

The Color Generator: This handy tool let’s you select the season your wedding is in. Once that’s confirmed, you’ll move on to choosing a primary color that fits the time best. With that, step three shows you an array of color palettes to choose from – each coordinating and fitting to the selected season. If you’re a rule-breaker like I am, take some time to go through each of the other seasons to see every option. I’m more of a do-what-you-love person when it comes to decorating, so sticking to seasonal colorings isn’t a must. It is, however, a great place to start when narrowing down a palette. Pick out a few of your favorite collections and go from there. Mix, match, and play around with the shades until you land on your perfect pairings. And now, you’ve accomplished arguably one of the most difficult decisions when it comes to decor planning.

Now that your colors are chosen, it’s onto the big (and little) details. Table settings, center pieces, sitting areas, dessert tables, the bar… The list is endless for things and spaces that need to be considered when deciding on the overall look and feel of your wedding. So again, where to start?!

Real Wedding Inspiration: This section on WeddingWire is like going through Pinterest – if Pinterest was completely organized and laid out into perfect little wedding categories to browse for inspiration. I’ve spent hours clicking and scrolling through each section to land on my final decor decisions. You start broad by clicking into “Ceremony” or “Reception” or “Flowers” and from there it gets even better. Those sections are divided up into every little thing you could imagine – by color, by setting, by specifics like table settings or ring pillows or inventive appetizer displays. Like I said: I browsed for hours. By looking at real weddings executed in a real way, you’ll be able to easily identify what you don’t like, what you like, and what you need to have. I recommend taking lots of notes and even Pinning your favorites from the gallery into your Pinterest wedding inspo board. No matter what your prefered save method is, hold onto your favorites so you can reference them later.

When it comes down to it, the ultimate vision is what matters most when choosing your wedding decor. You have to love it, but first you have to know what you love. Using the tools above to find inspo will make the final decision making process 10x easier. Once you have the vision set, all you have to do is make it a reality. Or a fairytale? Yeah, that’s it. Make your wedding fairytale come to life.
