Anaheim Packing District

Nestled in the historic center of Anaheim, The Packing District is a communal hangout that opened earlier this year and the hype has yet to quiet. I had been hearing from everyone that I had to check it out, and last Monday I finally got the chance. Michael and I headed there in the early afternoon, stomachs empty and hopes high for this new spot. Right when I stepped into the building, I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed. The Packing Building is two stories and lined on each level with restaurants, coffee shops, dessert choices, and bars. Whatever food mood you’re in, there’s an option for it at the Packing District. After circling the whole building, we chose to eat at the Kroft, who claim to make comfort food reinvented.   Their namesake chicken sandwich and fried cheese curds were to die for! For dessert, we got Popbars for the first time. Michael got a classic vanilla with drizzle while I went for the gold with what the girl called a Green Tea Kit-Kat. The green tea gelato, waffle cone crumbs, and white and milk chocolate were a winning combination.

When we were more than full, we decided to explore the area more. One of the best parts of this little gem is that there are so many nooks and spaces to relax in. Most of the food places will pack food to go, and you can find a seat on the pillow-topped ledges or on one of the huge swings on the main floor. The entire roof of the building is windows where natural light pours through, giving the industrial feel an airy atmosphere. We walked outside and went into Farmer’s Park that is right next-door. There were countless more seating options here, and we decided to lounge in some chairs under the trees and enjoy the gorgeous weather. After a while, we decided a drink was necessary. We went to the Hammer, a small, industrial style bar in the center of the upper level. There was an option on the menu for “Dealer’s Choice” where you gave the bartender your choice poison and they made a cocktail with that base. It was such a fun and creative idea that we both ordered this, mine being vodka while Michael’s was whiskey. Both drinks were delicious and really showcased the talent of the bartender working. We sat for a while, enjoying each other’s company and the easy vibe of where we were. Out of all the spots in Orange County that I could choose to spend my time, I have a feeling that the Packing District will now be at the top of that list.
