Fall style in California has always been a tricky concept. While the temperature does get cooler, we’re not lucky enough to have a full transitional season like those in the Midwest or the North East. Either way, we love our fall fashion here just as much as the next place. It’s all about finding a delicate balance between lightweight layers and traditional cold-weather staples.  With this look here, I styled together what I’m sure will be some of my quintessential picks this upcoming season. First things first: my new FRYE boots and shopper.

Leather is one of those materials that can be worn all year long, but there’s something about transitional months that call for even more of it. This shopper is sure to be the bag I grab for running around this fall. It fits anything I could need – including my laptop, which is always a huge plus for work, school, and meetings. It’s the perfect size for everyday use as well, and has spots to keep everything organized. As for these boots, you’ll be seeing them on me a lot this coming season. Not only do they look perfect with plaid, like I styled here, but they look just as good with a floral dress or a chunky sweater. The over-the-knee style is perfectly on trend with what I’ve been seeing all over the runways, right down to the height and the pointed toe. Usually with new boots, I find myself breaking them in for weeks. With this pair, the benchcrafted fit was comfortable right away. These FRYE accessories really reflect the company’s commitment to their product – each is embellished with extra details and you can feel the quality in the leather used.

To highlight the boots and the bag and to keep this transitional look on the airy side, I wore this Free People button up layered with a white tank. The ruffled detail of the plaid added a feminine touch to the look while the layer broke up the pattern. To make my FRYE accessories stand out even more, the rest of my finishing touches were black. For jewelry, The Essential Tie in a bow around my neck hinted to the suede boots and the Shinola added another touch of needed silver. Aviators topped off the look to stay true to a California styled season.

No matter what the weather, quality and style are always in fashion.
I can’t wait to continue to style my new FRYE pieces well into winter – check back to see how!
