The Sample Verdict

If you read my article The Sample Game, you know that I’ve been searching for my new go-to foundation.  My requirements were simple, yet surprisingly difficult to find; I wanted lightweight, medium coverage and didn’t get super oily as I went through my day.  The samples I collected included Dior Diorskin Forever, Nars Sheer Matte, and Giorgio Armani Maestro.  While the feel of Maestro was absolutely my favorite, I felt that the long-lasting power just wasn’t there.  I found myself carrying the sample around for touch-ups, and that just wouldn’t have been practical with the full size bottle.  My second favorite was by far the Diorskin, since it didn’t feel as heavy as the Nars Sheer Matte.  But to my surprise, I still wasn’t fully satisfied with any of these.  Diorskin is perfect for a night out, but on a daily basis, it left my skin feeling oily as the day progressed.

So back to the department store I went, determined to find a solution to my growing foundation-less problem.  A friend had recommended I try the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer.  I was skeptical, being set on getting a full foundation and not a tinted moisturizer, but I got a sample anyway and couldn’t be happier that I did.  It doesn’t feel like any tinted moisturizer I’ve used before; it’s slightly heavier which gives it better coverage than most but doesn’t weigh you down.  As long as I blot with powder at least once a day, it stays on well and never gets greasy.  It gives more of a dewy finish, which I never thought I’d like since I’m in the oily skin club.  It really has been a lifesaver, especially with the added SPF during this hot California summer.

On a side note, I picked up a new blush from Nars: Luster.  It’s the perfect mix of a pinky bronze and I love the healthy glow it gives to my skin.  I’m all about natural when it comes to makeup, and this is a perfect addition that goes so well with my array of tan and brown eye shadows.  Looks like I’m a bona fide Narcissist now, and I’m loving it.
