After going to the Getty Center toward the end of last year, I knew Michael and I HAD to plan a trip to the Getty Villa. On a whim, we decided to head up to the Pacific Palisades last Sunday for a visit.
The grounds, located basically in Malibu, are so incredibly beautiful. Not only do they have room after room of Greek and Roman antiquities like bronzes, pottery, coins, and ruins, the gardens and architecture are reminiscent of that time as well. To be precise, the construction is a close recreation of the Villa dei Papiri, an ancient Roman household that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79. Pretty fucking cool if you ask a history nerd… like me.
We spent hours and hours wondering the rooms and gardens of the Villa. We took a break midday to sit in the courtyard with a glass of rosé, then continued to explore. It was a perfectly relaxing cultural experience that I recommend to everyone. I can’t wait to go back!
