This vacation could not have come at a better time. Between work, my blog, and getting through another crazy holiday season, both Michael and I were in desperate need of a getaway. Thankfully, we had this Royal Caribbean 4 night Bahamas cruise planned forever – and it was the perfect escape. It was my first cruise ever (Michael’s second) so I didn’t exactly know what to expect. But let me tell you, I was blown away with the experience.
The cruise, which left out of the Port of Miami, went to Nassau, Bahamas, Coco Cay, Bahamas, and Key West, Florida before going back to Miami. It was such an amazing feeling to wake up each morning in a new place. The destinations were incredible – there were so many places to eat, shop, and explore in each one of them. Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, really showed what the Caribbean lifestyle was all about. However, my favorite day hands down was Coco Cay, where we rented a cabana, went snorkeling, and explored the island that Royal Caribbean owns. It was so private, relaxing, and incredibly beautiful. The third day of cruising took us to Key West, which had the most cozy atmosphere. My favorite part of that day was exploring Ernest Hemingway’s Key West house, where we learned so much. He’s one of my favorite writers, and seeing one of his estates in person was like meeting him – it’s hard to describe unless you see it. Seriously though, the pictures really don’t do these destinations justice!
Aside from the destinations, being on the actual cruise ship was a dream. My favorite part (obviously) was the incredible food and the service that came with it. The meals were all included with the tickets, with the exception of two restaurants, and we purchased beverage packages for the week beforehand. There were buffets all day every day and semi-formal and formal 3 course dinners – and all of it was so delicious. There were always shows and activities scheduled, as well as a casino onboard. Needless to say, there was never a dull moment.
Traveling this way, where everything is planned ahead of time and it seems like you’re in a hotel on the water, is nothing short of carefree. Michael and I seriously can’t wait until we can take time off again and plan our next cruise! Honestly, if you’re planning on taking a trip in 2016, cruising is the way to go.
