Although I’ve always lived in metropolitan areas, I feel a hole in my heart being filled whenever I’m immersed in nature. There’s something about the mountains that truly clears your head and shows you what is truly important. My boyfriend, who knows how special these places are to me, surprised me with a trip to Big Bear Lake for my 22nd birthday. We stayed at the Honey Bear Lodge & Cabins right on the edge of the Village. We spent the day of my birthday walking around the little shops and finding good food to eat. We got great sandwiches at this little place called Amangela’s and ate at the new and cozy 572 Social Kitchen & Lounge for my birthday dinner. In between, we cozied up in our room for a while just enjoying each other’s company and the peacefulness of the atmosphere. After a lazy morning the next day, we got dressed and headed out to find a coffee shop that Mike had previously been to called the Copper Q. They had quiches, croissants, and some delicious coffee that I can’t stop craving. Our last stop was finding a park to enjoy the snow one more time before heading home. After driving through the adjoining neighborhoods, we came across a small one right on the lake. It felt amazing to let loose and play in the snow like a little kid. Like I said before, nothing can compare to feeling close to nature, especially when I’m with the one I love. I’m so thankful to have had this special birthday planned for me, and I’m counting the days until we head back up the mountain!
