My eyebrows lately have been the main focus of my makeup looks – there’s nothing more chic than a strong brow and a minimal face. Since I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about what I use for them, I decided to put together an eyebrow tutorial for you all. First things first, the products: I use a mix of two MAC matte eye shadows for the color, “Embark” and “Carbon” and the MAC 263 Small Angle Brush to apply them. Choose a color that works for you, but don’t be afraid to go a shade darker for more impact. I used to use just “Embark” but recently added a mix of the black for more depth. The most important thing I’ll emphasize is that the eye shadow must be matte – shimmery brows aren’t cute on anyone. Before you start, make sure to brush through the hairs to organize them and to better see the line of your natural brow.
Get an even amount of each color on the brush and use it to outline the shape that you want. Lining right inside the hairs gives the brows a slightly more natural look, so don’t be afraid to leave a few loose hairs outside this line. This step will define where you want the color, as well as the severity of the angle you want. Pay close attention to the outer ends – make sure the line is clean and meets at a tapered point. If you go outside the line, get some makeup remover on a Q-tip to wipe away excess.
Next, simply start to fill in the center of the brows. Use the outline you created as a guide and apply the eye shadow in an upward sweeping motion, mimicking the texture and placement of the hair.
This last step is very important: be sure to brush through your filled in brows with a clean mascara wand or brush. This helps to more evenly distribute the makeup and get rid of any excess that may have accumulated.
And voilà! Your natural brow line is fully filled in and emphasized. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, I’m more than happy to help!
