Marble has been a model of luxury in the interior design world, and now the fashion world has become infatuated with the stone as well. I did a feature on marble print almost a year ago and the trend is still holding strong. One way I’ve seen marble print used lately that I love is on nails. While looking for nail art inspiration today, I decided to try out the look. There were a few methods described online, but this quick and easy marble nail was perfect for my busy day. Here’s a step by step of how I achieved the look!
What you’ll be needing:
White and black nail polish (I’m using Essie Polish in
“Blanc” and Sinful Colors “Black on Black”)
A topcoat (I’m using Sally Hansen Hard As Nails
Xtreme Wear Nail Color in “Invisible”)
Q-tips and nail polish remover
A roll of plastic or cling wrap
The first step is to paint two, thin coats of white nail polish for the base. Be sure to allow time for each coat to dry fully in order to prevent bubbling on the finished look.
Don’t worry if you’re messy with nail polish like I am – we’re going to get even messier in a second (and be cleaning it up after).
Once the white is completely dry, ball up a piece of cling wrap as tightly as you can.
Choose a side on the balled up plastic that has plenty of wrinkle to it and paint the black polish onto it. Don’t cover the whole surface! Imperfection is what we’re going for.
Gently tap the excess polish onto a tissue.
Then, take the painted plastic and press it lightly against the white nails a few times. Repeat this step on each nail, adding more polish to the plastic as needed. Each nail will have a different size and shape pattern, and that’s completely ok. Marble print is supposed to be natural and organic, not perfect.
Let the black dry (it shouldn’t take too long) and seal the design with a topcoat.
Use the Q-tips and nail polish remover to get rid of the access white and black polish that got around your nails.
And you’re done! You’ve got a super-on-trend marble manicure in minutes. How easy was that?
