Sentimental Gifts

With Valentine’s Day on Sunday, talk of who-is-getting-who-what is everywhere. This got me thinking… As a basic concept, gift giving isn’t that difficult. If anything, it’s a tedious process of getting to know the person and finding out what they would want. Pretty straightforward. But if you’re going to go through that trouble, that gift should be something that holds sentimental value as well. There’s nothing more important than cherishing the memories that make you, you, and nothing can compare to giving a gift that takes you to that place in time. These two rings are examples of sentimental gifts that I’ve been given. Michael bought the one with the black stone for me on a day trip last summer. The other was given to me by my mom this past Christmas. It’s an exact replica of the handles of the silverware sets that my Grandma saved for and bought each of her daughters. She bought the sets piece by piece until they were complete, and now my sister and I both have a set that will be passed on to us. To me, is ring is a symbol of the love of my Grandma and her work to provide the best for her family. When I wear these rings, which is almost everyday, I think of the meaning they have to me and of the person they’re from – and nothing can compare to that sentiment. Next time you’re thinking of buying someone a gift, take that extra time to find something that they would cherish more than anyone else would. I promise the effort will show.
