Ever since I decided to save money by doing my manis at home, I’ve been trying to perfect the art of nail polish. While I’m no master, I’ve settled into my rotation of a few minimal designs that are super easy to achieve. My favorite by far is the triangle moon manicure.
Here’s how to achieve it, step by step:
Start by painting two coats of whichever color you’d like the actual triangle to be. Here, I used “I Shop Mintage” by Nicole by OPI, but the best thing about this design is you can pick any two colors that you love together. The only thing to keep in mind is that the lighter color should always be the base color. It’s much easier when a darker shade is covering a lighter one. Don’t worry about making this base application perfect; you’ll end up covering most of it with the other color either way. Make sure you let this bottom coat dry completely before adding the second color to avoid little bubbles forming on the finished design.
After the triangle color is fully dry, it’s time to add the second and most prominent polish. I chose “Take It Outside” by Essie because I love the mint and grey combination. Wipe the extra polish off of the brush and draw a slanted line from the outside, bottom corner of the nail to the top center. Do the same on the opposite side, making the triangle as wide or narrow as you’d like depending on the thickness of the line. Once the triangle shape is in place, use the excess polish on the brush to fill in the sides of the nail. With a little practice, you’ll be able to draw the line and fill in the sides in one step.
Let that dry completely, add a topcoat, and voilà! You have the perfect triangle moon mani in just a couple of steps. Mix it up by using contrasting colors or a bright shade in the triangle. I also love to add a matte coat to the bottom layer only while keeping the top shade shiny; it adds such cool dimension. I love this design because the options are endless! Let me know in the comments below if you try this out, I’d love to hear how it works out. Also, don’t hesitate if you have any questions. Happy manicuring!
