First of all, I feel like it’s only fair to preface this post by saying I just got back from a trip to France. AKA my world of wine has been turned upside down. I mean, really though, what do you expect when even the extremely affordable table wines are INCREDIBLE?! And I mean incredible. It would have been pointless to document the varietals I tasted there, since literally every single one was worth documenting. It would have been French wine overload on here. But, I’m now an avid believer in the old world of wine, and I also have an extreme aversion to the additives they are required to use in wine in the States. No wonder I’ve been seeking out natural wines as of late.
Anyway, even if I think starting a crusade against the wine laws of America would be for the best, I have to live with what is available. The newest table wine we tried for home was, again, from Trader Joes. They just have great prices and great imports. And, surprise, surprise, it’s a vin blanc from the Loire Valley in France: Vignobles Lacheteau Vouvray. While, no, it’s not comparable to the real deal, non-import wines of the region, this was one of the closest for the reasonable price point. It’s sweeter than I usually go for with a white wine, but had a crisp aftertaste and paired well with some bleu cheese and camembert.
Whether I’m in Paris or not, I’m sure you’ll be seeing mannny more French wines featured for Wine of the Month. Je ne suis pas désolée.
Cheers!
