Wine of the Month: Eye of the Beholder Rosé

BABCOCK EYE OF THE BEHOLDER GRENACHE ROSÉ

I first tried this wine last spring, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It was THAT good and THAT unique. First of all, it’s the most intense natural wine I have ever had. By that, I mean the sediment content was pretty over-the-top, but that doesn’t bother me – it just makes the wine feel that much more unfiltered and un-messed with. This also happens to leave the wine with a slightly gritty feel. Again, not something that bothered me but something to keep in mind if texture bothers you.

As far as taste, this wine was sweet without being overly sweet. Think a fresh strawberry juice – it has that fruity taste with a little acidic kick that let’s you know it’s fermented. Other than that, the taste is very hard to describe. Basically, this was the most un-wine kind of wine I’ve ever had… and I loved every sip of it.

While it unfortunately looks like the winery is out of this batch, keep checking back to see if it comes around! It will be worth the wait for us both.

Cheers!
